Meet your host - Baron Hennessy of Nympsfield

Lord Peter Hennessy was a journalist for 20 years with positions including leader writer and Whitehall correspondent with The Times and lobby correspondent for The Financial Times and The Economist. He co-founded the Institute of Contemporary British History in 1986 and joined Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) in 1992 as Professor of Contemporary History. He has been Attlee Professor of Contemporary British history at QMUL since 2001.

Lord Hennessy’s analysis of post-war Britain Never Again: Britain 1945-1951, won the Duff Cooper Prize in 1992 and the NCR Book Award in 1993. His study of Britain in the 1950s and the rise of Harold Macmillan, Having it so Good: Britain in the 1950s, won the Orwell Prize for political writing. In 2010, Lord Hennessy was appointed as a non-political crossbench peer, taking the title of Baron Hennessy of Nympsfield. He continues to make regular contributions to the press, radio and television.
