Co-chairing and co-creating in Staff Students Liaison Committees (SSLCs)

Are you a new SSLC Chair or already a chair willing to consider strategies which can, ultimately, lead to more student engagement and effect change from SSLCs? Is it sometimes challenging to co-create with student co-chairs and student reps in SSLCs?

This course explores ways to promote the development of strong partnerships between co-chairs (staff and students) and opportunities for co-creation in SSLCs.

Specific topics covered include: 

- Engagement through partnerships and co-creation

- Co-chairing and making students’ voice count  

- Being partnership ready

- Preparing work with your co-chair

- Co-creating solutions and evaluating impact

- Co-creation: evidence and scholarship

You will be invited to reflect on your current chairing approach and consider ways to promote more student engagement through co-creation and effect change from SSLCs.

After completion, you will be better able to: 

  1. Describe the principles of promoting student engagement through staff-student partnerships;
  2. Apply those principles when co-chairing SSLC meetings: receiving contributions (listening) and communicating positions;
  3. Recognise & apply good practice based on the discussion of scenarios;

Effective Advising and Signposting

This e-learning course has been designed to help Advisors to become more effective in their role and to support staff to signpost in the Queen Mary context.  This course is central to advisors but open to a wider range of staff.

It explains relevant University policy, guidelines and regulations, as well as documenting best practice protocols to better support students.
