Funding Competition

Applicants to our PhD programmes may be eligible for competitive funding awards managed by the university. If you wish to be considered for one of our funded studentships, you must apply before the end of January for admission the following September. For September entry, the application deadline for most awards is mid-January. Students hoping to be competitive for funding awards should allow time to substantially revise their initial proposals following feedback from their potential supervisor(s). This means initial contact should be made before December of the year preceding the intended start date.

QMUL is offering fully-funded PhD studentships in all areas that fall within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences for September 2024 entry. All nationalities are eligible for these 3-year studentships which cover tuition fees and living expenses. Part-time applicants and current first-year students are also eligible to apply. There are additionally up to two awards for UK students who identify as BAME as well as one additional award funded alongside the Stuart Hall Foundation.

Application Deadline: 26 January 2024, 5pm

This AHRC Doctoral Training Partnership brings together eight leading research institutions to fund cross-institutional postgraduate studentships per year for PhD research in the Arts and Humanities. This programme covers a range of arts and humanities disciplines including English and drama, history, philosophy, law, film studies, development studies, politics and languages.

Under the scheme, Queen Mary will provide scholarships to cover all tuition fees, whilst the CSC will provide living expenses and one return flight ticket to successful applicants. This scholarship is available to both new and continuing (current 1st year) students. Associate students who want to come to Queen Mary for 6-24 months are also able to apply.
