What influenced your decision to study at CCLS, Queen Mary?

My decision to pursue an LLM at Queen Mary University of London was greatly influenced by the institution's prestigious standing within the Russell Group, renowned for its academic excellence. QMUL's distinguished reputation, particularly in the realm of legal education, appealed to me immensely. The university's extensive array of meticulously structured LLM programs, facilitating profound specialisation within various legal domains, captured my interest. Moreover, the comprehensive selection of modules offered within these programs, coupled with the expertise of the faculty delivering them, underscored QMUL's commitment to providing a rich and intellectually stimulating learning environment.

What was key about your programme/ were there any highlights?

Two key aspects stood out within my programme, the LLM in Technology, Media and Telecommunications Law. Firstly, the program's breadth of coverage in emerging fields distinguishes it globally. While Technology Law is a comparatively nascent legal domain, QMUL stands out for offering an extensive range of modules spanning various sub-fields within this domain, a feature not commonly found elsewhere. Secondly, QMUL serves as a vibrant nexus for passionate legal minds worldwide. Each year, it attracts driven individuals fervent about law and technology, fostering an environment conducive to forging connections and friendships with like-minded peers. This convergence of diverse perspectives enriches the learning experience and cultivates a community united by a shared zeal for the intersection of law and technology.

Did you combine modules across specialisations, where available, and if so, what were the advantages of this?

At QMUL, the breadth of module offerings facilitated the integration of sub-fields within my specialisation of law and technology. Specifically, I combined a selection of modules spanning Data Protection Law, E-Commerce Law, and Competition Law. This tailored combination allowed me to delve deeply into each area while also gaining a comprehensive understanding of the intersections between law and technology. By focusing on these interconnected disciplines, I not only expanded my expertise but also developed a nuanced perspective, enabling me to address complex challenges at the interface of law and technology with greater depth and insight.

Has gaining a deeper understanding of your specialisation helped your career?

Undoubtedly, gaining a deeper understanding of my specialisation has profoundly impacted my career trajectory. In today's global landscape, where technology permeates every sector, the legal intricacies surrounding this phenomenon are widely debated worldwide. As I prepare to embark on a traineeship at the Data Protection unit of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, I am acutely aware of the significance of the expertise I've acquired during my LLM program. The Council of Europe, an international organisation dedicated to upholding human rights, democracy, and the rule of law across its 46 member states, presents an exceptional opportunity to apply my specialised knowledge in a real-world setting. This experience not only underscores the practical relevance of my academic pursuits but also reaffirms the invaluable role that a nuanced understanding of technology, media, and telecommunication law plays in navigating contemporary legal challenges on a global scale.
