What influenced your decision to choose a LLM at Queen Mary?

I decided to do a Tax LLM at Queen Mary University for several reasons. First, the programme is one of the few tax programmes in the world with a mix of a Comprehensive International Tax module and a Domestic Tax module. This affords students the unique opportunity to gain a deep knowledge of both international and domestic tax. In addition, the programme offers a range of other important tax modules like EU Tax Law, Transfer Pricing, and Taxation in Developing Economies. In summary, it is a well-rounded programme that thoroughly prepares students to navigate the complexities of taxation.

How did you find the teaching and learning?

I found the teaching, especially classes on international tax, both interesting and unique. In addition to well-detailed lectures from experienced teachers, we were privileged to be taught certain topics in international tax by some of the best minds in the field. The on-campus classes were exciting and an opportunity to bond with fellow students.

Although the tax programme offers students the option to combine modules across specialisations, I took only tax modules in order to gain extensive knowledge of taxation in several jurisdictions.

What piece of insight or advice would you offer for future students?

I would recommend the Tax LLM at QMUL to all students who are looking to gain not just mastery of international tax but also knowledge of all the major concepts in UK and EU tax.

Did you combine modules across specialisations and if so, what were the advantages of this?

The tax modules have given me great insight into the practical aspects of international tax and UK tax law. I can safely say that the knowledge I have acquired will be of tremendous help in my tax career.

What was key about your programme/ were there any highlights?

The most exciting part of the experience for me has been making friends with people from different parts of the world.
