I was looking to start my postgraduate degree in January, and only a handful of universities offered a January start program. After doing some research on the options available to me, Queen Mary was my obvious choice of school. The law program was very well structured and offered a variety of modules to choose from. I was fortunate that they started the January program the year I decided to apply. I was also impressed by the fact that it is a Russell Group university.
My experience at Queen Mary has been exciting so far. I was impressed by the amount of module options that the law program offered. I decided to opt for the general laws programme instead of a specialism to allow me to tailor a program that suits my interests. I chose modules in Finance, Artificial Intelligence, Intellectual Property, Commercial Law and many more. It was an interesting combination of courses and I enjoyed learning about various areas of law.
I had the opportunity to combine modules from different specialisms, some of which included information security, Artificial Intelligence, Human rights, Intellectual Property - to mention a few. It was an interesting mix of modules where some had similar content and others were completely different. I would say one main advantage from this is that I have learnt about multiple areas of law – which is a plus especially if you are still uncertain about a specialism to focus on.
I have met amazing people from all over the world and have formed great friendships. So my advice would be to leave your comfort zone, experience everything life has to offer and create lasting memories. Simply put, YOLO (you only live once).
