Coming to the United Kingdom to study has been an exciting experience. Certainly among the best decisions I have made as it has given me the opportunity to come across an environment rich in diversity and which is very welcoming. That in particular has helped in expanding my knowledge on a wide range of topics with regards to different cultural groups and has also improved my interpersonal skills having to interact with such a diverse community.

The English Bipolar weather was something I had to deal with at first. The weather in my country (Nigeria) varies in so many ways to that of the UK. But eventually, I got used to it and got on with my daily affairs even amidst the ever changing climate. I have also experienced some difficulty learning how to use the OSCOLA referencing style. Nevertheless, with the help of the Critical Thinking and Writing Class offered at CCLS, I learned how to use it properly. Language was not an issue I had to worry about as a result of coming from a country that has English as its first language.

From a personal experience, I can assure any candidate looking to join Queen Mary that the University provides much needed help for students to succeed in their chosen field of study. For instance, I had the pleasure of working under the supervision of Professor Rosa Lastra at CCLS during my dissertation writing period. She provided guidance and feedback on every issue I had through the entire process. I got a distinction from the thesis and it’s all thanks to her counselling as well as my hard work.

Furthermore, the quality of education is outstanding and CCLS provides a very accommodative environment. In addition, CCLS also offers students access to the IALS library (Institute of Advanced legal studies) where there are so many research resources and materials.

Thus, the careers and enterprise team at Queen Mary also gives advice in relations to placement opportunities and other graduate jobs that helps in acquiring experience for students.

Those are a few of the factors I considered that encouraged me to join Queen Mary and I hope it resonates with you too.
