What influenced your decision to choose Queen Mary?

The International Dispute Resolution programme was one of the first dispute resolution programmes in the UK and the professors are among the best in the field of International Arbitration. The fact that the School of International Arbitration is renowned in the International Arbitration industry also made me want to have my degree from Queen Mary University of London.

How did you find the teaching and learning?

I found the teaching very practical and up to date and we discussed recent Supreme Court decisions during seminars. The blended learning experience had us watching arbitration proceedings online and attending international arbitration conferences, which we would ordinarily not have been able to participate in person. The professors displayed enormous insight and depth in the field of international arbitration. They encouraged critical analysis and opinion from students and gave us freedom of thought and expression during seminars. I took a course on negotiation, and we had a negotiation simulation for each class and thereafter reviewed the exercise for lessons and reflections. It was my best class because the professor encouraged us to actively participate and interact with each other during classes even though it was virtual. The small group teachings for all modules were also very interactive and the facilitators simplified every part of the course that seemed technical.

What was key about your programme/ were there any highlights?

The highlight of my programme were the negotiation exercises we had in every negotiation class. They were simulations that we could easily relate to and needed critical thinking and analysis to resolve. This gave me so much insight and clarity on the art of negotiation. I also learnt a lot while writing my final assessment for the module which was about “how to negotiate with difficult people”. Other than my academic experience, I have made many friends with people across the world and learnt to appreciate diverse cultures.

What piece of insight or advice would you offer for future students?

I would encourage future students to actively participate in classes, ask questions, enjoy the benefit of having international arbitration experts answer your questions and clarify issues of confusion and take advantage of the services offered by the PG Law Careers team.

Would you be willing to share your Testimonial? If so, you could help a prospective student to make an informed choice to study at Queen Mary. (Class of 2020, 2021 and 2022 only).
