What influenced your decision to study at Queen Mary?

The Queen Mary Centre for Commercial Law Studies (CCLS) and the School of International Arbitration is regarded by international scholars and practitioners as a leading institution for study of International Dispute Resolution. Queen Mary was thus my preferred choice due to its reputation in the field.  

How did you find the teaching and learning?

When I decided it was time to pursue a master’s degree in a specialised field, I did a thorough search and quickly realised that Queen Mary University of London is regarded as a leading academic institution in International Dispute Resolution. The experience and knowledge of the teaching staff is unrivalled, and the excellent non-academic support added value to the learning experience as an international student.

Has gaining a deeper understanding of your specialisation helped your career?

The academic staff engage students in the topics during teaching sessions and the learning platform was well structured. Specifically, the academic content of the modules was relevant to practice as a legal practitioner, and I was able to use the knowledge gained from the commercial arbitration course to act as Counsel in an international commercial arbitration.  

What piece of insight or advice would you offer for future students?

Prospective students can expect to be immersed in a vast database of publications on international investor-State and commercial arbitrations and reading is a key component of the course.  

What was your best experience of studying at Queen Mary?

The most memorable part of studying at Queen Mary has been the array of academic and non-academic support services which proved very useful since I was enrolled as an international online-learning student in the LLM International Dispute Resolution course. The academic staff’s practice-oriented approach coupled with deep knowledge of theory has given me a competitive advantage in this niche field.
