Queen Mary brings together several Foucault experts for a symposium on a new book by Professor Marco Brigaglia
Queen Mary's Centre for Law, Democracy, and Society hosted a symposium for the new book Foucault on Power, Law, and Society A Reappraisal (Routledge 2026) by Professor Brigaglia (University of Palermo), which offers a novel interpretation of Foucault’s work. The book was introduced by the author, before a discussion involving three discussants and members of the audience.

Organised and chaired by Dr Noam Gur (Queen Mary), the symposium hosted, in addition to the author, the discussants Dr Gavin Byrne (University of Birmingham), Dr Jacopo Martire (University of Bristol), and Dr Isobel Roele (Queen Mary). An engaging presentation by the author was followed by a lively discussion that included a comment by each of the discussants, a reply by the author, and questions from the audience. Chiming with one of the book’s key goals, the event provided an opportunity for a dialogue between theorists from different intellectual traditions, transcending traditional divisions such as the ‘analytical philosophy’ and ‘continental philosophy’ divide.
