Foundation programmes

The following Chinese qualifications will be considered for entry onto a Queen Mary Foundation course:

  • Senior High School Graduation Certificate

Undergraduate

How to apply

Students who have successfully completed A-Levels or the International Baccalaureate will be considered for direct entry onto our undergraduate degrees. We may also consider recognised Foundation qualifications. For individual grade requirements for particular degree programmes please refer to the undergraduate study section of this website.

Gaokao 

Queen Mary will now consider applicants studying the Gaokao for a selection of our programmes. 

Exceptional students will have the opportunity to be considered for a selection of programmes within the School of Physics and Astronomy (All programmes), School of Mathematical Sciences (All programmes), School of Engineering and Material Science (Material Science Programmes only),  School of Biological and Chemical Sciences (Chemistry or Chemical Sciences only) and the School of Economics and Finance.

 In order to be considered you must:

  • Successfully completed the Senior Secondary Graduation Certificate (高中毕业证书) with 85% average overall. You must also meet the specific subject requirements for your chosen course and achieved 80% in Physics/Chemistry/Biology in year 11 or 12. Please see the individual course page for subject specific requirements.
  • Achieve an average grade of at least 80% overall from four subjects, including 80% in Mathematics and 80% in the Gaokao (普通高等学校招生全国统一考试 (高考) (National College Entrance Examination (NCEE).
  • Applicants must also meet the English Language Requirements relevant to the programme applied for.

Pre-Masters Programmes

We normally consider the following qualifications for entry to our Graduate Diploma programmes:

Bachelor degree awarded from a recognised institution. The minimum overall final marks required will be either 60% or 70% (- offer conditions will vary depending on institution attended).

Or

College Diploma (Zhuanke) – minimum 3 years – awarded from a recognised institution.   The minimum overall final marks required will be either 70% or 75% (- offer conditions will vary depending on institution attended).

How to apply

Postgraduate

We normally consider the following qualifications for entry to our postgraduate taught programmes: Bachelor Degree (minimum 4 years) from selected institutions.

UK 1st class degree: 85 to 95%
UK 2:1 degree: 75 to 85%
UK 2:2 degree: 70 to 80%

Offer conditions will vary depending on the institution you are applying from.  Generally, we do not accept applications from students studying at Affiliate Colleges.
