Access to Work

If the support you need at work cannot be covered by Queen Mary making a reasonable adjustment alone (e.g. this might be because the support needed is more costly), you may be able to get a grant to cover additional support through Access to Work. This is a Government initiative which provides practical and financial support to help disabled people and those with long-term physical or mental health conditions, take up or remain in their job. It can help with:

  • Special equipment or adaptations
  • Fares to work for those who can’t use public transport
  • A support worker or job-coach to help in the workplace
  • A free and confidential Mental Health Support Service for people who are experiencing difficulties with their mental health in the workplace. This includes assistance to develop a support plan, which may include suggestions for reasonable adjustments in the workplace
  • Disability awareness training for work colleagues
  • A communicator at a job interview or in the workplace
  • The cost of moving equipment following a change in location or job
  • Help and advice for employers to retain and employ staff.

You can find further information on Access to Work and how to apply on the Government Access to Work page..

If you have any further questions or want any advice about making a claim through Access to Work, you can contact your HR Adviser.
