Dr Ishani Chandrasekara, Programme Director for BSc Accountancy (Flying Start), was issued the silver award by Pearson HE Innovate Award for "Most impactful use of Pearson courseware or services".

Dr Chandrasekara said: “I am absolutely thrilled to win a Silver - Pearson HE Innovate Awards this year for a whole host of reasons. This award celebrates the hard work we put in for our students.

I’ve always regarded education as a critical part of helping people to change their lives. This is my 12th year working in partnership with the Pearson Education team, and I believe it is so vital for the publishing firms and HE institutions to work together as a community to share costs and reduce prices for supplementary material for students going to university. It’s the absolute bedrock of social mobility.

A huge thank you to Pearson Education team, our students and our colleagues for inspiring me to be where we are today."

Dr Chandrasekara has played a leading role in the development of Queen Mary’s BSc Accountancy (Flying Start) programme, run in partnership with PwC.

During her career, she has focused her efforts on widening access to the accounting industry, securing industry-sponsored scholarships and bursaries for students from lower income-backgrounds.

These achievements were commended by the Queen Mary President and Principal, who issued Dr Chandrasekara with one of seven Education Excellence Awards in December 2021.
