Occupational regulation in the EU and UK: prevalence and labour market impacts

Published:

Dr Maria Koumenta recently led a research project for the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, looking at the labour market impact of occupational regulation in the EU and UK.

The externally commissioned research examines:

  • the extent to which labour markets in the EU have occupations subject to at least some regulation, or restrictions on the ability to practice the occupation
  • the extent to which occupational regulation may present a barrier to the ability of EU professionals to work in the UK.

The research also provides a breakdown of estimated proportions of the labour market affected for 27 EU member states.
