Overall agenda:
The workshop aims to look at cross-border effects within a somewhat wider disciplinary framework than pure economics. Empirical and theoretical economic papers are encouraged, but so are multidisciplinary articles. This workshop will be a forum to discuss the latest political economy related issues. Our goal is to select a small number of papers in order to allow for feedback and debate from participants. Of particular interest are papers that consider the following topics:

Global and regional governance
Human and civil rights
Environmental spillovers and treaties
Development assistance
The role of the World Bank/IMF/WTO
Linkages between trade and governance/human rights/environment

The following keynote speakers have kindly agreed to deliver a lecture:
Partha Sen – Professor of Economics, Delhi School of Economics
Todd Landman - Professor of Government and Director of the Institute for Democracy and Conflict Resolution at the University of Essex
Panicos Demetriades - University of Leicester

Scientific/organising committee:
Sushanta Mallick (QMUL), Co-organiser
Huw Edwards (Loughborough), Co-organiser
Brigitte Granville (QMUL)
Ben Ferrett (Loughborough)
Ahmad Ahmad (Bath)
David Kernohan (Middlesex)

Members of the organising committee will each chair a session with a broad theme. There may be parallel sessions, if there are sufficient speakers. There is a limited budget to cover the cost of this workshop. So participants will be required to cover their travel expenses and arrange accommodation. There is however no conference fee.

Proposal for a journal special issue
It is intended that a selection of papers will be put forward for a special issue/section in Review of International Economics or/and World Development. The special issue will focus on the interaction between economic and political/legal/sociological factors in determining the growth and economic integration of developing economies. As such, the focus will be interdisciplinary and international, but with an economic focus.
