The National Archives holds the records of the modern Irish state which document its historical evolution and the creation of the Irish national identity. Directly relevant to the study of the Northern Ireland Peace Process are the archives of the Department of the Taoiseach and the Department of External Affairs (Foreign Affairs). These files are subject to the thirty-year rule. They include material such as: memoranda on successive Irish government's policy on Northern Ireland; details of the tripartite negotiations at Sunningdale in 1973; details of meetings with delegations from political parties in Northern Ireland and the British Government.

Access:

Open Mon-Fri, 10.00-17.00 to members of the public with a valid reader’s ticket. Members of the public may apply for a reader’s ticket on the day of their first visit to the National Archives, provided they have photographic identification. The tickets which are free of charge, are issued for periods of up to three years.
