Chronicle is designed to provide online access to the BBC Northern Ireland television archive. It is a partnership initiative between the Strategic Content Alliance (SCA), the BBC, and the British Universities Film and Video Council (BUFVC). News from the 1960s and 1970s is available exclusively to licensed UK higher and further education institutions. The digitised material will allow users to explore events over a forteen year period (1963-1976) covering landmark moments from a political, historical and cultural perspective. Nearly 8,000 videos are now available.

Strengths:

The project is shaped by an Academic Steering Group made up of scholars from participating institutions who suggest material for digitisation and provide feedback on the academic value of material. It also has web-based tools allowing the archive to be searched, viewed and annotated.

Access:

Access to Chronicle is freely available to educational establishments in the UK once they acquire a sub-licence. To register your interest and discuss your requirements you may contact the BUFVC on ask@bufvc.ac.uk or call 020 7393 1500.
