What influenced your decision to choose a LLM at Queen Mary?

As someone who wants to work in an international business environment, Queen Mary was the right choice for me as its Centre for Commercial Law Studies has an excellent reputation. Based in Paris, I was delighted because I could study the same course as if I was based in the UK. All the classes are conducted at the University of London Institute in Paris (ULIP) which is situated near the ‘Invalides’.

How did you find the teaching and learning?

Despite the pandemic, I was very satisfied from the online teaching and the way modules were delivered. The module convenors were very well organised as they put a lot of emphasis on us doing some pre-reading before the classes so that during the classes we could participate in constructive discussions.

What was key about your programme/ were there any highlights?

This LLM offers you a broad range of modules as well as specialisms from Arbitration to Intellectual Property Law or Banking and Finance Law. During my studies studying the LLM, I realised that I would like to pursue my career in “Comparative and International Dispute Resolution”. In the class of “International Arbitration: Regulation and Infrastructure”, I learnt the fundamental theoretical concepts and legal framework for international commercial arbitration, and got a real insight into the practice of international commercial arbitration as an independent comparative law subject. In addition, I really enjoyed the class of “International Arbitration: Skills and Advocacy” as I had the chance to step in the shoes of arbitrator, counsel and clients.

However, Queen Mary offers you more than a traditional learning experience. As a Queen Mary student, I participated in the qLegal program which is a legal clinic. I worked on a legal workshop for a client and published a legal document. Those tasks have enabled me to learn specific skill sets needed to become a successful lawyer

Would you recommend this course to other students?

I would definitely recommend this enriching and unique course for those who want to work in a large international law firm or international institutions and would like to have a profound knowledge of English Law, as well as International Law.

Would you be willing to share your Testimonial? If so, you could help a prospective student to make an informed choice to study at Queen Mary. (Class of 2020, 2021 and 2022 only).
