What is your current job?

I am an associate lawyer (admitted to the Paris Bar) in the Commercial litigation & Arbitration Practice Group of Baker McKenzie in Paris. I specialise in international arbitration and handle both commercial and investment matters. My practice also focuses on advising companies in relation to their civil and commercial litigation proceedings before French courts.

How did studying at CCLS help you in your career?

Prior to studying at CCLS, I attended law school in Lebanon and France. While I have always been interested in international law, it was during my studies in France, when I participated in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, that international arbitration caught my interest. Working on the moot case and discovering new notions of international arbitration convinced me that I wanted to embrace a career in international arbitration. Therefore, I sought to expand my knowledge in this field. This is precisely why I enrolled on the LLM Programme in International Business Law at Queen Mary University of London.

This Programme provided me with an excellent academic and practical foundation essential to practice as a lawyer specialising in international arbitration. It has also given me opportunities to develop professionally and personally by building a solid network of law practitioners. Being an LLM graduate is nowadays almost a requirement to be eligible for an associate position in international law firms. And this is quite legitimate since the LLM allows you to acquire practical knowledge through the intervention of renowned professors and improve your legal writing skills.

Do you have any recommendations for others studying for a postgraduate degree?
