In the lecture, Professor Lastra, Sir John Lubbock Chair in Banking Law at the Centre for Commercial Law Studies, Queen Mary University of London, discussed how and why digitalisation reached the shores of central banking and how legal systems are adapting to this new reality. She explained that privately issued cryptocurrencies are challenging established notions of money and monetary sovereignty and she considered international aspects of money and digital currencies, including the future of the monetary system after the war in Ukraine.
