'To save people is a duty', says Dr Violeta Moreno-Lax in an interview for The Luxembourg Reporter
Dr Violeta Moreno-Lax was interviewed by the Luxembourg Reporter where she discussed the migration situation in the Mediterranean and her work on the Search and Rescue Observatory for the Mediterranean (SAROBMED) programme. On assisting migrants at sea, Dr Moreno-Lax said: “What we must understand is that there is a duty to rescue. It is not an option, but a duty under international law. And it applies to every nation and everywhere at sea. The duty to rescue is universal, it applies to everyone, no matter their status.” The interview is available by clicking here (in German and subscription required).
