Dr Prakash Shah discusses the Western Foundations of the Caste System

Published:

Dr Prakash Shah, Reader in Culture and Law at the School of Law at Queen Mary University of London, appeared on the Meru Media podcast to discuss the Caste System and its conceptual foundations in the Western world.

He said: "Indian culture is coterminous with hinduism as the dominant influence of that culture, and hinduism has a caste system, and of the course that story about hinduism and the caste system has been entirely created by mainly the British but with a strong European-Christian hand in it. Broadly you can say that caste is a construction of orientalism. The more contemporary issue is why would caste be introduced into a law in the United Kingdom in 2010/2013?"
