Professor Rafael Leal-Arcas to serve as an expert on sustainability and trade for UN Environment Program in Geneva

Published:

Rafael Leal-Arcas, Professor of European and International Economic Law at QMUL's Centre for Commercial Law Studies (CCLS), has been invited to participate as an expert in a project on 'Sustainability Checklist for Trade Negotiators: Helping Trade and Investment Achieve the SDGs' [PDF 247KB]. The project is carried out under the leadership of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD).

The recent conclusion of the Canada-EU Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) and the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP), and ongoing work to negotiate the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), offer a glimpse into the profound impacts that regional agreements may have in establishing the “new normal” for trade and investment rules, even beyond the original participants.
