Dr. Leonidas Cheliotis was interviewed on the 3 o'clock televised news of Al Jazeera about the ongoing protests in Greece. In accounting for the situation, Leonidas drew attention to: the long history of police brutality and impunity in Greece; the high levels of corruption amongst the two major political parties and low levels of public trust towards the state; the ascendancy of neoliberalism, as it relates to increasing poverty rates and high unemployment rates amongst the youth; and the huge mismatch between higher education and the labour market.
