‘Deconstructing Lawfare: Pacifying and Weaponizing Law’

18 February 2020

Time: 12:00 - 1:30pm
Venue: Room 313, Third Floor, School of Law, Queen Mary University of London, Mile End Road, London E1 4NS

The International State Crime Initiative (ISCI) is delighted to announce the first seminar of its 2020-21 State Crime Seminar Series, to be delivered by Professor Richard Falk, Professor Emeritus of International Law, Princeton University; Professor Orfalea Center of Global and International Studies, University of California; and previous UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (2008-2014).

As one of the world’s leading scholars in the fields of International Relations and International Law, Professor Falk will explore the terminology and politics of ‘lawfare,’ recently used to validate the ‘torture’ of 9/11 suspects in the United States, to stigmatize criticisms of Israel with universities and public venues, and as a means of repressing dissent in countries governed by autocratic leaders, including those democratically elected.
