His research interests are in areas related to development economics, especially effective means to improve child health and education in low income countries, and the design of randomised trials to measure the impact of economic policies. In 2005 he helped found Effective Intervention, a UK charity with a strong research orientation which focuses on reducing child mortality in low income countries. Effective Intervention is helping sponsor, design and implement several large cluster randomised controlled trials to reduce child mortality in India and West Africa
