Financial fragility: New measures and some results

2 November 2016

Time: 1:00 - 2:00pm
Venue: 4.04/4.08 Bancroft Building

Abstract

The authors of the paper present a range of new indicators of financial fragility for 124 countries over 1998-2012. They show that these indicators help to predict crises and that they have negative effects in growth over and above the effects of crises. The results suggest that financial fragility is not only a precursor to crises but can have deleterious effects on growth even if crises are avoided.
