Developing expertise in water and environmental management

Students on Queen Mary’s Water and Environmental Management MSc develop interdisciplinary knowledge of catchment science, policy and management, integrating hydrology, geomorphology, biogeochemistry and ecology with insights from the water and environmental sectors. The programme also addresses pollution, climate change and sustainable management across the catchment-to-coast continuum, preparing graduates to contribute to the protection and management of freshwater and marine environments.

Learning how ecosystems support climate resilience

At undergraduate level, Nature-based Climate Solutions (GEG6232) explores how improved stewardship, conservation and restoration of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems can contribute to climate mitigation and environmental resilience. Students evaluate nature-based approaches across different ecosystem types, considering their feasibility, environmental co-benefits and potential to support more sustainable management of biodiversity and water systems.
