Film Studies

Be the next one to explore the human condition through film

Professor Steven Eastwood directed the award winning documentary, Island (2017), which addressed the act of dying and end-of-life care. Study with us and you could be the next one to explore the complexities of the human condition through film.

Why Film Studies at Queen Mary?

As a Russell Group university with a difference, we believe in the power of film. Our programme offers the perfect balance between theory and practice, giving you the opportunity to progress to a wide range of career paths upon graduation.

As well as exploring the history and theory of cinema, you will learn the technical and practical aspects of film production. You will foster an understanding of visual aesthetics and touch upon areas as diverse as history, politics, philosophy, technology and performance.

Our London location, providing access to a thriving cinema and film culture, is also ideal for the study of film. We are based in the heart of the East End, close to creative quarters in Hoxton, Shoreditch and Spitalfields.
