qLegal participated in the Queen Mary Festival of Communities

qLegal staff and students enjoyed being part of the annual Queen Mary Festival of Communities on Saturday, 11 June, in Stepney Green. It was an opportunity to engage with Tower Hamlets families about entrepreneurship and qLegal.

Children doing activities with qLegal at the Queen Mary Festival of Communities 2022The purpose of the Festival of Communities is to provide a forum for Queen Mary faculty and students, community groups and local residents to come together to share ideas and experiences and learn from each other. The weekend was sunny and warm, and over 8,000 people attended over the Saturday and Sunday. The annual festival showcases Queen Mary’s commitment to public, community and civic engagement.

Eight wonderful qLegal volunteer students interacted with children ranging from age 4 up to age 16. Working from a script, the students asked children about their ideas for starting a new business and followed up with more specific questions like the name and logo for the business, the source of funds, who the clients would be, how much they would charge them, etc. One of our favourites was a young girl who drew a beautiful, eye-catching logo for an ice cream store she would like to open.

The day was very enjoyable, and we look forward to participating again next June.
