Profile

Dr Sirovica graduated from the University of Leicester with an undergraduate Masters degree in Physics (MPhys) in 2012 and completed a PhD in Materials Physics (funded by an STFC Global Challenges studentship) from Aston University (2018).

From 2018-2019, he held a post-doctoral research role within the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Alberta (Canada) and was a visiting research fellow to the University of Manchester (Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health).

In 2019, Dr Sirovica returned to the UK joining the Faculty of Dentistry, Oral and Craniofacial Sciences, King’s College London as a post-doctoral research associate before being appointed to the post of Lecturer in Dental Materials at Queen Mary University of London.

I teach Dental Materials science to undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Research

Research Interests:

My research interests focus on combining in-house laboratory based techniques with the use of advanced central facilities, typically synchrotron X-ray and neutron scattering approaches, to understand the underlying structures of biomaterials. I have focused primarily on studying determinants of network heterogeneity and strain at atomic to micron length scales within photo-activated acrylate based resins and polymer composites used as dental filling materials.

The collaborative nature of the groups I have worked in has also allowed me to explore a wider range of synthetic and natural biomaterials. My research activity includes the structural investigation of a range of materials including lithium silicates, calcium phosphates, colloidal silica particles, collagen, heart tissue, fossils and hydrogels in collaboration with internationally leading groups from the UK, Europe and North America.
