Profile

After graduating from Manchester University, I worked in both hospital and general dental practice for a few years.  In January 2002, I was appointed as a Clinical Lecturer/Honorary Specialist Registrar in Restorative Dentistry at Sheffield University Dental School and completed the higher specialist training programme in Restorative Dentistry in January 2007.  In September 2007 I was awarded the degree of PhD.

Before QMUL, I was Professor and Programme Director in Endodontics at Hamdan Bin Mohammed College of Dental Medicine in Dubai (2014 to 2020).  Prior to this, I worked at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry initially as a lecturer involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.  I also worked as a locum Consultant. In 2009, I became Senior Lecturer/Honorary Consultant at Manchester University Dental School where I was heavily involved in the undergraduate curriculum and postgraduate teaching.

I am an examiner for the membership in Endodontics RCS(Edinburgh) and was recently appointed as the external examiner for the three year postgraduate DDSc programme in Endodontics at Liverpool Dental School.

Teaching

I am currently the programme lead for the three year DClinDent Endodontic programme.  I have been delivering postgraduate courses for the last ten years.  Prior to this I was involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

Research

Research Interests:

My research interests include the impact of CBCT on Endodontics.  Factors affecting Endodontic outcomes and quality of clinical guidelines.  In addition to this I have published on the effect of bleaching on dental tissues and biomaterials.
For the past five years I was the sole supervisor for ten MClinDent Endodontic research dissertations which were successfully completed and assessed by external examiners.  I have also examined both Masters and PhD theses externally in the UK and abroad.
