Profile

Dr Zaki is currently an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow/ Speciality Registrar in Prosthodontics at the Centre of Oral Bioengineering at the Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, QMUL. He has joined the speciality-training pathway in 2022.

Dr Zaki graduated from King’s College London in 2013 with a Master’s in Integrative Pharmacology and Physiology for Research. He went on to complete his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from Liverpool university in 2018. Dr Zaki then went on to complete his Diploma of membership with the Faculty of Dental Surgery (MFDS) at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCS Ed) in 2019. Dr Zaki has completed a second Master’s in Advanced Restorative Dentistry at the University of Manchester in 2022. 

Dr Zaki has over 2 years of experience of working within the Oral and Maxillo-Facial Surgery (OMFS) department in North Wales. Here, he was able to gain trauma and surgical experience, including taking out wisdom teeth. Dr Zaki has been involved with clinical research in OMFS and restorative dentistry for a number of years and has published various research papers. He has presented nationally and internationally on various occasions, presenting his clinical work and research. He has been awarded multiple national and international awards during his career.

Teaching

Dr Zaki is very much interested in teaching, and in 2020 he completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in a Clinical Context at Edge Hill University, Liverpool. He has taught undergraduate dental students at the University of Liverpool. He has also held the position of Speciality Doctor in Acute Dental Care at King’s College Hospital in London. Here, he was able to further refine his teaching skills, supervising undergraduate dental students and dental core trainees. He currently supervises undergraduate students and dental core trainees on clinics at the Royal London Hospital. 

 

Research

Research Interests:

Dr Zaki has an interest in dental implant based oral rehabilitation. The thesis of his MSc in Advanced Restorative Dentistry focused on survival rate of mandibular complete overdenture retained via one implant vs multiple implants. Dr Zaki is currently focussing on carrying out further research in implant dentistry.
