Profile
Originally from Teesside, Alex began his undergraduate training at the University of Leeds in 2013, successfully gaining a BSc First Class Hons Degree in Human Physiology (2016) before competing his dental training at the University of Central Lancashire’s School of Medicine & Dentistry. Training for four years at Carlisle Dental Education Centre, Alex provided the full scope of general dentistry to patients in an NHS capacity, graduating in 2020 with a First Class - experienced in the delivery of care in both the NHS & Private setting having supported denial professionals & patients in Chester & the Wirral. Alex has recently taken post with QMUL - and is now a senior dentist with the University of Suffolk Dental CIC; having re-located from the North West of England in 2024.
Alex has published several articles and international journal features on topics such as clinical professionalism, patient-centred care & dentures; having a particular interest in effective patient communication, dental phobia, restoring the terminal dentition & treatment-planning for those patients with additional or complex medical & social needs. Alex is also trained in the use of Cone Beam Computer Tomography (CBCT) in a dental setting; currently considering the restoration, maintenance & management of failed of implant-supported prostheses & professional accountability as a dental professional as part of his editorial interests - working towards completion of his PGCert in Dental Education in the Summer of 2025 as his roles expand with QMUL.

Teaching
Alex is a Clinical teacher in Restorative Dentistry at Queen Mary University of London; supervising dental students & dental hygiene & therapy students on patient clinics & providing additional support during clinical skills laboratory sessions. Alex also has a key role in supporting final year BDS students on their outreach placement at the University of Suffolk Dental CIC where students, approaching graduation & enrolment onto National Dental Foundation training, build their confidence & independent approach to life in practice.
Alex’s previous ‘So you want to be a dentist?’ admissions workshops & lectures at the University of Leeds School of Biological Sciences - guiding biomedical undergraduates considering a career in dentistry - continue to be a highlight of Alex’s early career in education.
