Careers and Enterprise

For Care Leavers and Estranged Students

The Careers and Enterprise team is here to support students and applicants who are Care Experienced or Estranged from their families.

We understand the hurdles independent students face and are here to make your career journey as smooth as possible, and ensure that you have access to all the careers support you need.

As a Care Experienced or Estranged student, you are eligible for extended 40 minute appointments.

You can either book via the Queen Mary Careers Hub or directly by emailing our dedicated Careers Consultant for Care Experienced and Estranged students, Andy Walsh at andrew.walsh@qmul.ac.uk.

There are also external organisations and charities that can help you with resources you might need for your career journey.

Including...

  • Suited and Booted - a charity helping vulnerable, unemployed and low-income men get into employment by providing suitable interview clothing, interview advice and mentoring.
  • Drive Forward - a charity helping young adults leaving foster or residential care to achieve their full potential with exciting and sustainable employment opportunities.
  • Dress for Success - a charity working to empower women into the workplace from positions of disadvantage by providing professional clothing and styling, interview coaching and ongoing support once they re-join the workplace.

If you have any further questions about the support we can offer to Care Experience and Estranged students, then email us at careers@qmul.ac.uk
