Important application information

Applications close at 5pm (GMT) on Wednesday 1 April; no late submissions will be accepted. Interviews will be held on Tuesday 28 and Wednesday 29 April 2020. Travel costs for interviewees will be reimbursed. Unfortunately alternative interview dates cannot be accommodated; given the current government advice interviews will likely be web-based and held remotely. You will be notified by Wednesday 22 April whether you have been shortlisted for interview. Interviewees will be asked to give a 5 minute presentation on why they are interested in the programme. 

This a Wellcome Trust-funded non-clinical four-year PhD programme in science. As such we will not normally consider applications from individuals with clinical qualifications, and will only do so if they can demonstrate they are committed to a career outside clinical practice. Clinically qualified applicants intending to maintain clinical practice may be interested in Wellcome funded programmes designed for clinicians who wish to integrate their PhD studies with clinical training.

This is a standard form and we are not able to edit the questions set. Please note PhD projects and supervisors will be confirmed during the MRes year and it is not necessary to contact supervisors or outline a project or specify a supervisor at the application stage.

Please use the Personal Statement section of the application to provide evidence and/or examples of:

  • Your curiosity;
  • Your passion for research;
  • Your commitment to undertaking interdisciplinary research;
  • Team working in a research context;
