Extraction

DNA extraction and purification methods used at the Genome Centre

The Genome Centre offers DNA extraction from most common sources including blood, saliva and solid tissue. We have worked on a number of these with our robotics supplier, Beckman Coulter, to automate these, increasing accuracy and efficiency.

The table below shows some of the options for DNA extraction. For more information and to discuss options please contact Dr Charles Mein on 020 7882 2055.

Whole blood DNA Single tubes to 10ml or 96 samples at 800µl Salting out1 protocol, manual or automated on a Biomek FX
Whole Blood DNA 96 well format 200µl Wizard SV 96 Genomic DNA purification system, automated on the Biomek FX
Saliva DNA Single Sample or batches of 96 samples Oragene™ technology manual protocol for small numbers of samples or fully automated for batches of 96
Solid Tissue DNA 96 well format Wizard SV 96 Genomic DNA purification system, automated on the Biomek FX
Plasmid DNA preparation DNA 96 well format Wizard SV 96 Genomic DNA purification system, automated on the Biomek FX
Solid Tissue RNA Single Tubes Qiagen RNeasy manual protocol
Cultured Cells RNA Single Tubes Qiagen RNeasy manual protocol

In addition, we can work with collaborators to develop novel techniques for extraction from other sources of DNA and RNA.
