Research Interests:
|
Dr Hassan’s research applies evidence-based methods to problems met in clinical teaching, evaluates the results, and publishes the findings openly so that other institutions can adopt them. Digital teaching and decision-support tools. He led development of a three-dimensional facial anatomy and injection simulation, built with the Blizard Institute technical team. A mixed-methods study of 25 postgraduate trainees found that 96% reported improved injection skill on real patients (Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, 2025). He also led the Oral Surgery Risk Assessment (OSRA) app, built with the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science and the Institute of Dentistry. In a 30-participant randomised crossover study it was rated higher than conventional PDF guidelines across all five domains (BDJ Open, 2026). Both tools are released free under a Queen Mary licence, and OSRA was funded by the President and Principal’s Fund for Educational Excellence (2025). International educational research. In 2025 he established a consortium with the Universities of Málaga and Porto, Egas Moniz School of Health and Science (Lisbon) and King Juan Carlos University (Madrid) to study emotional intelligence and stress in dental students. Its first output, a systematic review and meta-analysis of 47 studies covering 10,233 students in 19 countries, was published in the European Journal of Dental Education (2026). Clinical and evidence-based research. His clinical interests include regenerative treatments and platelet-rich derivatives (including injectable platelet-rich fibrin), oral implants, conscious sedation and aesthetic medicine, with a series of evidence-based reviews produced with his Master’s and Doctoral students. |
