Telephone Campaign 2019

This November, we had our ninth Telephone Campaign. We are thrilled to announce that our campaign was a huge success thanks to our incredibly generous alumni!

Published:

Our annual four-week telephone fundraising campaign came to an end on the evening of Sunday 1st December. Our team of 40 student callers, from all backgrounds and disciplines, really enjoyed their conversations with 1,200 of our alumni, learned lots about your experiences as students and what you’ve gone on to do since graduating. Our students were really impressed by the strength of the relationships our alumni have with the University, which was echoed by the support pledged to current and future Queen Mary students through the Annual Fund

The Annual Fund’s priorities are to widen participation, create opportunities and give our students what they need to achieve their potential - this can range from buying text books to a suit for job interviews.

You helped raise just over £120,000 over the next five years!

Meet Lewis Boakye-Mensa, BSc Mathematics, one of our student callers. He says:

“I applied to be a student caller because it’s a great way to give back to the students of the University and especially because one of my friends is an Annual Fund recipient and told me how it’s made such a difference.

“I had an interesting call with an alumnus, who studied at Queen Mary in the 60s. He told me all about his career journey, from being a musician to becoming a teacher.”

Kyla Yin, Medicine MBBS, told us about her time as a student caller. She says:

“I wanted to be a student caller so I can be involved in a campaign that makes a huge difference to students’ lives.

“I had a lovely conversation with a Barts and The London alumna who reassured me that I didn’t have to choose a speciality early on, and even if I do and change my mind later on, there are always different options and pathways to go through.”

Alumni support is immensely important to our students who, with your help, can reach their potential and graduate.

We’re deeply grateful to you, our kind alumni, for supporting our students and for sharing your time and experiences with us – thank you!
