"I first visited Queen Mary University on an Open day, and I knew I wanted to study here. I enjoyed talking to staff and students and walking around the campus. It’s also a Russell group university and local to me which is a bonus. Getting my A-level grades last year was quite stressful because I didn’t know what to expect so I’m glad I secured my spot at Queen Mary.

"As the first in my family to go to university, I really value my education and hope to do well in my studies. My mum is unable to work, and my dad works part-time, being the eldest child also means I have responsibilities at home. During the lockdown, my dad couldn’t work because of his poor health and this put a huge financial strain on our family. It was hard for me because I was starting university and needed a laptop amongst other study equipment.

"I was happy when I found out I’d been awarded the Annual Fund Scholarship. It feels good to not have to worry about my student expenses. The funding has helped me buy study equipment and textbooks. The award has helped me manage my finances without the added stress.

"Students do have financial stress and it can, in some cases, jeopardise their learning. Some students are in less fortunate situations and need that extra financial support to get through university.

"I’m now going into my second year of university and I want to prioritise focusing on my studies. After I graduate, I want to work in the finance sector as a data analyst and I would eventually like to start my own business.

"Thank you for supporting me through this scholarship. This award has taken some financial stress away and helped boost my confidence."
