What made you want to take on the role of Alumni Chapter Lead for Kuala Lumpur? What do you hope to achieve in this role?

Having served as the Malaysian alumni ambassador for the past 7 years, I have grown a passion for helping prospective students in understanding Queen Mary better and connecting alumni for career opportunities. I understand the importance of networking and I am dedicated to help my fellow alumni and students to network with each other. My goal is to work closely with the Global Alumni Engagement team to provide the best networking and engagement experience.

I enjoyed volunteering at the Queen Mary Legal Advice Centre with other student advisers. We worked closely with solicitors from reputable law firms and gave back to the local community in East London by providing free legal advice.

Could you tell me about your current job and what it involves? What drew you to this work?

I am currently working as a deal manager in the Global Financial Operations division of Oracle. I prepare contract documentation for different lines of business by utilising approved standard and non-standard options to address all contract variations requested by Sales. I chose to grow my career with Oracle as I believe in Oracle's mission to help people see data in new days, discover insights and unlock endless possibilities.

Could you describe your career path that led you to where you are?

I started my career as an associate legal counsel at the Central Bank of Malaysia, where I learnt to draft policies for the financial markets. After a four-year stint in the financial industry, I joined AirAsia, the world's best low-cost airline, as a group legal counsel responsible for corporate governance. When AirAsia expanded its digital business arm in 2019, I got promoted to the position of senior legal counsel. I was proud to have helped AirAsia in launching a global venture capital fund with 500 Startups in the US. In 2021, I decided to broaden my horizon by joining Oracle, a fast-growing Fortune 100 company.

Why did you choose to study Law? Why at Queen Mary?

I was drawn to the well-publicised supportive and friendly atmosphere around the campus and the significance Queen Mary places on diversity and inclusion. The lecturers from the School of Law are very committed in their teachings. The tutors are extremely helpful and they will always take extra efforts to provide first-class learning experience.

What was your experience of moving to the UK for study? Were there any differences that surprised you?

It was a pleasant experience. Queen Mary has a dedicated team which supports the international students at all times. I was actually surprised that British people love their cuppa a lot! Sadly, I haven't learned how to make a good cuppa.

What motivates you in life?

My passion for travelling! Travelling allows me to step out from my comfort zone and gain a wider perspective of the world around me. I always find it exciting to learn a new culture, try a new cuisine and meet some new friends.

What are your aspirations for the future?

I picked up programming through online classes during the pandemic and I would like to build my competencies in different programming languages!

What were the highlights of your time at Queen Mary?

I enjoyed volunteering at the Queen Mary Legal Advice Centre with other student advisers. We worked closely with solicitors from reputable law firms and gave back to the local community in East London by providing free legal advice.
