Becoming a Principal Fellow of Advance HE was an important opportunity for me to reflect on my own educational practice and, in particular, on how our influence as educators extends beyond our own teaching. Since then, one of the most rewarding aspects of my role has been mentoring colleagues working towards Fellowship.
I have particularly enjoyed working with colleagues from very different disciplinary and professional backgrounds. Every application is different, and I see my role as helping colleagues identify the strengths in their practice, articulate the impact they have on students and other educators, and develop a coherent narrative that reflects who they are as educators.
It has been a real pleasure to accompany colleagues through this process and, most importantly, to see them succeed. Mentoring is also a two-way process: engaging closely with such a diverse range of educational practices continually gives me new perspectives on my own teaching and educational leadership.
