Yes, all our masters degrees are available are part-time. Please note if you plan to work whilst studying its important you allow sufficient time to cope with out-of-class requirements, such as preparing for seminars and assessment. All teaching takes place between 9am-6pm at the Mile End campus.
Yes, our MA International Relations and MSc International Public Policy degrees are available via Distance Learning. Distance Learning is useful if you do not – or cannot – live in London for the duration of your degree. It is also useful if you have a demanding job and do not enjoy the flexibility to regularly take time off in the daytime to attend classes.
Modules are taught on an online learning environment specifically designed for distance learning. Students primarily communicate with – and are supervised by - lecturers via electronic media through, for example, scheduled online seminars. Students also enjoy full access to the electronic library resources of QMUL and the University of London, click here to find out more.
We also offer shorter versions of most of our programmes that will give you a Postgraduate Diploma or a Postgraduate Certificate.
Postgraduate Diploma students take four modules over two semesters (full time) or four semesters (part time). They do not complete a dissertation.
Postgraduate Certificate students complete two modules over one semester (full time), again there is no dissertation.
Core modules usually include a weekly one hour lecture and one hour seminar and these are usually held on the same day. Your option module(s) also follow the above format, so it is likely you will have to be in for two days a week if you are full time.
As a part-time student you can expect to be in one day a week; the structure is usually as follows:
You will choose your dissertation topic in the second year, and work on the dissertation over the final summer.
MRes students take two core modules (one of which is taught over two semesters), one option module and complete the dissertation.
Core modules and some optional modules have exams as part of their assessment.

If taken full-time, all our masters degrees take one academic year and if taken part-time it is over two academic years. Semester 1 runs from September to December, semester 2 from January to March. If there are exams for any of your modules these will be scheduled between late April and June and you will submit a dissertation in late August (if you are a part time student you will submit your dissertation in late August of your second year.
A 2:1, or equivalent if you are an international student, in an undergraduate degree in a related subject from a recognised university. If you are an international student you can check the degree entry requirements online.

Please note the different fee for MA/MRes in International Relations and MSc International Business and Politics. Please also note these figures are a guide for the year of entry stated, fees increase annually and your offer email will confirm whether you have been assessed as a home or international student for fees purposes.
If you submitted a complete application, you will usually receive a decision from the Admissions Office within 4-6 weeks. Please check the email account provided in your application to see if you have already received notification from us. Applicants who firmly accept their offer to study at QMUL can make applications for accommodation usually from mid-March onwards. You can find further details on postgraduate accommodation online.
Firstly, you need to accept your offer online (see the instructions in your offer email), then in mid-August or earlier, if you have met the conditions of your offer, you will be sent an email and instructions about completing initial enrolment online. Enrolling in person at Queen Mary takes place in September . If you are distance learning student, you will complete your enrolment online.
In early September we will email you about the School’s Induction session for all new students. This message will be sent to the email address you provided in your application form.
