Journey to Higher Education Webinar Series

Students from Years 10 to 13, parents and carers are invited to join us to hear from university staff and student ambassadors, to find out more about the UCAS application process, higher education, and have their questions answered.
 
Students wishing to attend should register individually. These events are not open to group bookings, although teachers and advisers are very welcome to attend.

Queen Mary is pleased to have launched a series of webinars designed to support students from KS4 and KS5, and parents and carers, to understand the journey to higher education. We hope these webinars can offer invaluable support in the lead up, and transition to, higher education. At Queen Mary, we want to make the process as clear as possible. 

Students should register individually for the webinars they wish to attend. Teachers and advisers are very welcome to attend but are unable to book on behalf of a student or group of students.

Join us to learn about the wide range of different options available for students from age 16. We will equip you with the knowledge to make qualification and subject choices for the future by exploring topics such as:

  • A-level subject choices
  • Resources for support
  • Qualification types
  • Future changes.

This webinar is aimed at year 10 students.

UCAS and Personal Statements Webinar

Tuesday 1 December 2020 - 4.30pm - 5.30pm

In this session, we will cover how to engage effectively with the UCAS process to generate and submit a strong university application.

We will include guidance on how to structure the personal statement, and provide strong examples that will support you in linking your statement to your chosen course.

This webinar is aimed at year 13 students.

This webinar will provide a summary of the realities of student life from the perspective of some of our current ambassadors. Topics covered will include:

  • Academic life
  • Social life
  • Time management
  • Managing financially
  • The range of accommodation options that are available

This webinar is aimed at year 12 and 13 students and will take place on our Unibuddy platform. After registration, the link to the Unibuddy event will be emailed to you prior to the event.

This webinars will give you an overview of the interview stage of the application process and introduce you to the things that you can do to prepare. You will also have the opportunity to discuss approaches to a wide variety of interview questions with some of our student ambassadors. By the end of the webinar, you should know what interviewers are looking for, the variety of questions you could be asked and how you can prepare to answer these.

This event is suitable for year 13 students who have applied to study Medicine at university.

This session will explore the importance of digital literacy and equip learners with the necessary skills to access an increasingly digital world. We will include information on the recent COVID-related changes to teaching and learning at university and how to prepare for the possibility of 'blended learning'.

In this webinar, we will cover an overview of the financial arrangements, including fees, the funding available, and advice on managing on a budget from a student's perspective.

We will ensure an understanding of the Student Finance Package, including loans, scholarships and bursaries, and include information on the repayment terms of the student loan
