Queen Mary Public History Unit present Ronald Hutton - European Witch Hunting in a Global Context
The issue of abuse and murder, and sometimes of trial and punishment, of people accused of witchcraft, has become a major problem in the contemporary developing world. The United Nations is currently developing a global strategy to deal with it. This talk is designed to consider the particular place of Europe in this world context, and to determine what, if anything, was unique about European attitudes to witch-hunting. This would also enable an answer to the question of what, if anything, the European example has to offer those concerned with a solution to the problem of ending witch-hunting across the planet today.
