Profile
Dennis graduated with a faculty prize from Obafemi Awolowo University (O.A.U) Dental School Nigeria in 2002, did his internship at the teaching hospital and worked there briefly as a senior house officer before proceeding for his national youth service. On completion of this mandatory service in 2004, He worked under two consultant oral and maxillofacial surgeons for three years where he gained experience in oral surgery. He also assisted in undergraduate teaching of medical students during this period.
In 2007, Dennis moved to the United Kingdom to study. He was awarded a master’s degree in dental public health from Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) in 2008, and a Diploma in Dental Public Health (DDPH) from the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He worked briefly as a research associate in QMUL before joining NHS Islington in 2009 where he helped set up a model Oral Health Promotion department and supported care homes across Camden and Islington to incorporate oral health care into their older residents’ care plan.
His passion for teaching brought him back to Barts Health NHS Trust and QMUL in 2014 where he has been involved in clinical teaching and assessments to date. To formalise his teaching career, he completed a post graduate certificate in academic practice (PGCAP) with distinction in 2017.
Dennis also has a special interest in oral surgery and to validate this, he completed a two-year postgraduate programme in clinical oral surgery at the Peninsula dental school, University of Plymouth and was awarded a postgraduate diploma with distinction in 2024.
Other qualifications Dennis holds include Licence in Dental Surgery (LDS) from the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery (MFDS) from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. He is an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of England, the Lead Examiner for the OSCE component of the Overseas Registration Examination (ORE) and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
Teaching
Dennis leads on the Clinical Human Health and Disease (CHHD) also known as Medicine for Dentists module where he teaches dental students the practice of medicine in relation to dentistry. He coordinates and oversees all teachings, assessments and clinical postings on the module. His teachings often focus on oral health impact of systemic diseases and their relevance to dental practice.
As a dentist with special interest in oral surgery, he assists with clinical teaching and supervision of students on the oral surgery student clinic from time to time. He also teaches and examines on wider curriculum subjects within the dental school.
Dennis is an experienced examiner in the use of Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) for clinical skills assessment. He was appointed the Lead Examiner for the OSCE component of the Overseas Registration Examination (ORE) in Dec 2024.
