Upon graduating with a BDS degree from the College of Medicine University of Lagos Nigeria in 1994, I went on to complete a six year postgraduate specialisation in paediatric dentistry and obtained a fellowship (FMCDS) of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria. After emigrating to the UK, I completed the statutory examination to obtain full registration as a dentist with the General Dental Council. I went on to achieve a postgraduate certificate in academic practice (PGCAP) at QMUL in 2010 and became a fellow of the higher education academy (FHEA) in 2011. In the same year, I obtained the membership of the faculty of dental surgery (MFDS) of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and recently completed a Master of Arts Education for Clinical Contexts with merit in 2019. I serve as a deputy chair for the academic appeals panel and I volunteer as a tutor for one of Queen Mary’s widening participation partners.
I teach paediatric dentistry to undergraduate and postgraduate students and have leadership roles in assessment and teaching for various aspects of the BDS programme.
Externally, I am a core examiner for the Licentiate in Dental Surgery Examination of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in addition to examining at the Diploma examination of the National Examining Board for Dental Nurses.
My main research interest is in dental education with a particular focus on assessment and curriculum development. I have presented at scientific conferences of the IAPD, ADEE and AMEE.
