Profile

Cassandra qualified with honours in 2012 from Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry following completion of a first class BSc honours degree in Biological Sciences with Virology at Warwick University in 2008. She has been awarded several clinical and academic prizes and was nominated for the London Gold Medal for Dentistry in 2011.

Following graduation Cassandra completed dental foundation and dental core training in London, rotating through restorative, oral medicine, dental emergency and oral surgery clinics, as well as the Community Dental Services where she worked for four years managing patients with dental phobias, physical, emotional, social or mental disabilities and complex medical histories. As a Dental Officer she provided care under sedation and general anaesthesia, and she continues to provide inhalation sedation for paediatric dental patients with Barts NHS Trust.

She completed training in Cognitive Behavioural Techniques for the Management of Dental Fear in 2016 and was awarded the PGDip with merit in Conscious Sedation for Dentistry from King’s College London in 2017. Following completion of the PGCAP with distinction in 2019, she is continuing her training in higher education at Dundee University (MMEd).

Teaching

Clinical Lecturer: teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate dental students in paediatric dentistry, including clinical supervision, curriculum planning, module design and assessment (internal examiner). 

Fellow with the Higher Education Academy.

Lead for Child Oral Health for BDS 3. 

Lead for Dental Electives and Erasmus for BDS 4.

Academic Advisor (BDS3). 

Joint Clinical Lead for 'Barts Community Smiles' : a student-led oral health promotion group (awarded funding through the Centre for Public Engagement large Grant in 2018).

Training provision with the London Deanery (DFT training and CPD). 

Representative on Newham Together : Community Education Provider Network. 

Currently undertaking the Masters in Medical Education (MMEd) at Dundee University. 

Research

Research Interests:

Cassandra’s areas of clinical interest include paediatric dentistry, dental anxiety management, conscious sedation and dental education.

Service evaluation: Investigating the levels of dental anxiety, treatment need and treatment outcome of children attending for inhalation sedation at the teaching hospital (Barts NHS Trust).

Research: Using the Theoretical Domains Framework of behaviour change to investigate changes in student self-efficacy, knowledge and skills in the transition to clinical practice in dental school.
