Jade Echard wins WantedDesign Conscious Design Award

Jade and her product range “OSTRA” presented at Central St Martins Summer show and WantedDesign Emerging Designer Showcase.

A team from IOD collaborated with Ms Jade Echard, to synthesise recyclable ceramic products produced from oyster shell waste. Jade is an Industrial Design Masters student at Central Saint Martins, London, and has won the WantedDesign Conscious Design Awards in the 'Sustainable Solution' category for this work.

The Awards for Best Student Projects are presented with Metropolis magazine and the support of the International Interior Design Association (IIDA).

The QM team comprised; Dr Alexander Cresswell-Boyes (Centre of Oral Bioengineering), Dr Maria Piana (Clinical lecturer, Centre for Teaching and Innovation) and Dr Mike Cattell (Reader in Dental Technology and Biomaterials, Centre for Oral Bioengineering). Jades’ project aimed to utilise oyster shells organic waste as a valuable, sustainable and local resource by developing a range of products (OSTRA) in the context of a circular economy.
