On this page, you will find the semester dates for this year and upcoming years of study at Queen Mary.
Please note:
- From 2019-20 onwards the structure of the academic year for programmes following standard term dates will change due to the introduction of semester-based examinations. Please see term dates below for more information.
- Masters students starting in September are expected to work on their dissertation or project throughout the summer – for these students, this period between the end of the university's Semester 3 and their course end date is not a vacation. For masters students, only Christmas (end of the study week in the university's Semester 1 to the beginning of the university's Semester 1 Examination Period) and Easter (end of the university's Semester 2 and the beginning of the university's Semester 3 Study Period) are vacations.
- Masters students starting in January are expected to work on their dissertation or project throughout the summer – for these students, this period between the end of the university's Semester 3 and the start of the university's Semester 1 is not a vacation. For masters students, only Easter (end of the university's Semester 2 and the beginning of the university's Semester 3 Study Period) and Christmas (end of the study week in the university's Semester 1 to the beginning of the university's Semester 1 Examination Period) are vacations.
- PhD students do not follow this pattern of attendance – vacations should be agreed in writing with their supervisor(s).
- International Foundation Programme students (January start) do not follow this pattern of attendance – visit the School of Languages, Linguistics and Film for more information.
- Pre-Masters Graduate Diploma students (January start) do not follow this pattern of attendance – visit the School of Languages, Linguistics and Film for more information.
- The MBBS and BDS do not follow this pattern of attendance - please contact Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry for more information.
